Canadian Space Astronaut Jeremy Hansen Opens AstroCATS / GA2016 Today at Fanshawe College

Jeremy Hansen

London-area native Jeremy Hansen will be at the GA2016 / AstroCATS to launch the events at 9 a.m. today, May 21, by giving a talk about his experience as an astronaut.

Last minute visitors should go first to the Registration Desk in the Student Centre, to register for the day's event. Please use parking lot 8 on the east side of the College. Parking is free there today, but leave plenty of time ahead, as it's about a 15 minute walk back to room D1060, where Jeremy's presentation takes place.

Meal Events are now closed; Room Reservations closed yesterday

Online registration for the event itself -- for AstroCATS / GA2016 -- will close at 21:00 on Tuesday. You can still attend the event! Just step up to the Main Registration Desk and wave a $20 bill at one of our helpful and patient registration clerks.

At 21:00 on Monday evening, the registration system stopped accepting orders for our major social events: the Wine & Cheese Reception, the Pig Out Under the Stars and the Gala Banquet.

Two "Free" events

There are two important opportunities to learn about astronomy without registering for the GA2016 / AstroCATS. Thursday evening at 20:00 in Room R1020 there will be a lecture about "Earth's Mini-Moons" by Robert Jedicke. Robert's lecture is sponsored by the national organization of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, parent of your AstroCATS / GA2016 host clubs.

Registration Deadlines

Hello everyone. If you have not created your account yet, please get on it right away. If you have an account but haven't ordered your GA2016 / AstroCATS participation, it's important that you sign up soon. If you have completed your order but not made payment, we hope you will help us by paying now because we have to meet our obligations. Perhaps most important right now is that we need to settle the room assignments in the campus residence. If you still have to finalize your selections, we need a day or two to organize these. We look forward to seeing you!

Our Logo: Galaxies Merge

Galaxies Merge

Welcome to the GA2016 / AstroCATS website! Today we unveil our logo, called "Galaxies Merge." The RASC General Assembly and the AstroCATS Canadian Astronomy & Telescope Show are coming together like two wonderful spiral galaxies. The logo will appear on posters and t-shirts, and even as a tiny icon on your browser tab. There won't quite be billions of stars and all that dark matter and gas, but at least you won't have to wait 500 million years to see how they come together. Registration is open, so clear your cache and update your credit card balance. It's all here on these pages.
